The first WCWG-TV Cinco de Mayo event took place on Saturday May 7th from 10 am – 12 midnight and Sunday, May 8th from 12 noon to 8 pm at the 421 Havana venue near Greensboro, NC. This was the first ever WCWG-TV/Estrella-created event, taking a lot of hard work from the majority of the WCWG-TV staff. Crowds of well over 8,000 people stayed late into the night, with live bull riding both days, and a full carnival, bouncy rides for kids, various vendors, mechanical bull and pony rides, a Mariachi Band, a beer tent and all types of food.
WCWG-TV held a full soccer tournament both Saturday and Sunday with medals and trophies awarded for the top three teams, a live bull riding rodeo both Saturday and Sunday, and 23 live bands playing inside and outside through the weekend. The 421 Havana venue near Greensboro is over + 13 acres.
